Nisqually: Southwest Entrance

A year-round entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park for vehicle traffic, the Nisqually entrance via SR 706 provides the closest access to the Longmire and Paradise areas of the park. Longmire, 6.5 miles from the park entrance is a National Historic District and the location of the National Park Inn (open year-round), Longmire Museum, and Wilderness Information Center.  At Paradise, find the Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center (open year-round), Paradise Inn and Paradise Guide House.  The National Park Inn and Paradise Inn offer dining and overnight lodging inside the National Park.

The road from the entrance to Longmire remains open throughout winter except during extreme weather. The road from Longmire to Paradise closes nightly from November 1 through winter. It reopens the following morning dependent upon snow removal.
